External Escape Staircase to Public House
Newark
As part of our ongoing interior fit out works we were asked by our client to install a new steel staircase for exterior use which would allow them to utilise a first floor function room and comply with Building Regulations as a secondary means of escape in the event of a fire.
As the staircase terminated in the bars courtyard it was important to design something that was not only functional & long lasting but would also be aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
Our solution was to have all the treads & landings hot dipped galvanised to prevent them from rusting and to install a black powder coated spindle infill handrail & stringer plates suitable for public use with our feature stainless steel handrail detail to cap things off.
Once our final design drawings were approved, works started by preparing the sub base, then installing new pad concrete foundations to support the main steel supports for the staircase & landing to allow us locate the stairwell into position. A number of obstructions had to be overcome to ensure the installation went smoothly for instance – existing fences, un-even ground and a gas supply pipe but with precise measuring & professional management the project was completed within several days and to the agreed budget leaving our client delighted with our installation.
